Linocut Class

I'm teaching a one-day linocut workshop on Saturday, January 30 starting at 9:00am and ending by 4:00pm in Pewaukee. Cost will be $40-45, which covers supplies that you take home with you and can continue to use!

Please email me at if you want to join in the fun!

Postage Paid Submissions

These got sent off to Artworks in Kenosha for the upcoming "Postage Paid" show.

(Except for one that I backed out on sending. Now I need to decide whether to send one more before the deadline.)

Some Kind of Monster

Oops, I forgot to post this on Monday.

I sketched, cut, and printed this little 5x7" print in a few hours one evening. Mostly because I didn't want the "24 Boneheads" print to be my lone submission to the Monster show.

Speaking of which, go see the Monster 8 show at Artworks in Kenosha! It opens tomorrow and ends with a closing reception party on Halloween.

Small Map Print

I must have Grand Rapids on my mind, because a map of its downtown area was the inspiration for this little linocut for a print exchange.

I needed 10, but printed 16 so I had room for testing and mistakes. I also coated them to make them little plastic-y and transparent maps.

The little color markers are also tiny linocuts. These prints are all trimmed and finished.

Framing and Transporting

The whole process of framing and transporting these big guys has gone quite well so far, but that doesn't mean I haven't been absolutely terrified along the way!

Finished Commission

It's getting framed by Artworks right now and there will be some space between each section when it's up on the wall... but here it is, all together and finished!

Printing Commission

By comparison, the second day spent printing the commission pieces went incredibly fast. Only 2.5 hours to print the first (white) layer of sheep shapes over the background (which was a 10-hour print day).

The third day of printing took 4 hours because getting the color and placement right was a little more tricky.

I can't believe I'm done printing this beast! I'm just waiting for everything to dry before choosing the best pieces and taking better photos of the final product.

"Print 'til you puke!"

This is what the end of 10 hours of printing 2x3' and 3x3' pieces by hand looked like. (Okay, I didn't actually puke, just got very tired and slightly lightheaded.)

Last Test Sheep

An evening of sheep testing, which should be the last test run for these guys.  (The spare ink I used was rather gooey.)

Testing & Tweaking

I've entered the agonizing phase of test printing, tweaking the carving, and hitting the repeat button several times before I can print the final pieces.

I wanted to give special thanks to my husband for encouraging me to keep going because half of the time this project terrifies me. He also had the idea to swap the things in our living room with the things in the 2nd bedroom / "project room"... and actually went through with it. The huge space I can work in now is amazing.

Spring Cleaning

Bursts of warm weather always get me itching to spend time outdoors and to clean indoors, which means the past week I haven't made much progress on new work. When not outdoors all I've accomplished this past unusually warm week is sorting though old work and a bit of looking into future shows.

On that note, here's "Spring" from the "Four Seasons" I made at the end of 2009... which I should note were included in one of my first blog posts back in May 2010.

Circles Variation (and More Sheep)

Trying different things with that circles linocut. And cutting more sheep parts. The last few weeks have been busy.
