Intaglio Duck Plate - Touching Up

After re-applying more aquatint I etched some areas a little too much and a large scratch appeared...

... so a little scraping and lots of burnishing brought the plate to where I'd like it to be, though I had more paper-tearing issues. Now that the plate is finished I'll print on some heavier paper.

Intaglio Duck Plate - Aquatint

Next on my intaglio plate I did several layers of aquatint. The densely etched parts unfortunately ate some of the paper when printed, and my photo of the plate is rather blurry. Next I'll be doing some touching up - maybe a bit more aquatint and then some burnishing.

Intaglio Duck Plate - Soft Ground

I added a layer of lightly etched soft ground textures on my 6x8 inch intaglio plate (combination of processes).

Chine Colle & A La Poupee Demo

I can't claim this next image as my own - it's from an abandoned plate from some former Intro Printmaking student. I wanted to use my own 6x8, but it wasn't done yet after having some difficulties getting the right softground effects this week. So I can only claim the color ink application & collage-d bits of blue paper as my own, purely for demo purposes for yesterday's class.

Return of the Aquatint Duck

The Aquatint Duck returns. I re-etched some areas to make them darker, as I first intended with this demo.

Return of the Etching Duck

I came back to my etching process demo plate - re-etching lines I wanted darker, and re-printing to eliminate the pesky plate tone that showed up the first time.

Combination Intaglio Duck Plate

I started my last intaglio demo for my Intro Print class - a plate that combines at least 2 processes. First off, I did a line etching and pulled a proof.

Here's the inked plate...

... and the printed proof again.

Soft Ground Duck

Yesterday's demo was Soft Ground. I used mostly a tracing technique but also added a texture in the corner. I accidentally etched it a bit longer than I wanted, but otherwise it turned out fine. I might go back & scrape out some of that gray that accidentally etched.

Aquatint Duck

Yesterday's demo for Intro Print class was aquatint. I was pleased with the different effects I tried, but was disappointed that some areas were not etched as much as I thought they would. Oh well, I'll just be another good example to the students that things don't always turn out perfectly the first time, and tweak it until it turns out better.

I also did a second test plate to show some of the more sporadic things that can be done with aquatint, and this one turned out as expected - much better than the duck example!

I'm working on a sketch for a print exchange. Can you figure out the "hidden" image within the ribbons?

Etching Duck

Here's my line etching duck - first the plate with sketch and then the sketch with my first print. I decided the plate is going to need some re-etching and re-printing with not so much plate tone.

Drypoint Duck

I was going to post this on Monday but I forgot to photograph the plate & print... so I apologize.

First is the sketch and drypoint plate...

... followed by the plate and printed image. Not bad for an in-class demo.

Second Duck Sketch

Here's proof of the duck with my second sketch (yes, compiled from those previous sketches) for my 6x8 inch demo combination intaglio process plate.

Duck & Sketches

I got teased for not posting an actual photo of said Duck & copper plates with the last post, so I made sure to include the Duck with the rough sketches for the four 2x3 inch intaglio process demo plates this time.
