... what do those things have in common? They're what I'm using to prep for my intaglio demos next week.  In-progress photos to come.

Woodcut Demo

Sorry for missing my usually every-other-day blog post last time, but I felt as if I didn't have anything worthy to blog about. But I decided to write about what I've been doing, as boring or bad as it may be. In today's case, I'm showing you the resulting print of my first woodcut demo a few weeks ago for the Intro Print class I'm currently teaching.... it's a bit of a collaborative effort that simply shows different ways of cutting the block and how it prints.

Design on the side

I know this isn't what I usually do, but lately I created a design for Michigan Dog Drivers.

Mezzotint Edition

Here's the edition of 15 that I sent to the Cascade Print exchange. I settled on using just one plate and a different orientation. I think I'll still use the 2 plates I made in some other way in the not-so-distant future.

Mezzotint Proof

After pulling the first few prints, I decided that for this project I don't like the look of the two plates together after all, & will just print one of the plates for the edition. But here's a look at how one of the 2-plate mezzotint proofs looked.

Burnishing Mezzotints

Now that I applied the ground on the copper plates with the rockers, I'm burnishing my designs into the copper. (It's a similar look as mezzotints I did earlier.)

The second photo here shows the sketches I did to figure out the composition before I reversed them on the plates.

Mezzotint-Making

The sandblaster I've been normally using for quickly applying an even textured ground on copper plates for mezzotints is out of commission. Instead, I was able to borrow some mezzotint rockers and after several hours I'm slowly building up a nice rough ground on my two little 3 x 3 inch plates.

Online Portfolio Update

My students today were the ones to remind me to update my online portfolio today... and I appreciate their reminder.
