First Day of Last Semester

It's true... already my last semester is here. I'm full of mixed feelings about it. It's wonderful and terrible, exciting and scary - all at the same time. Yesterday was my first day of class and today I'm mostly working at school. I have a feeling this semester is going to fly much faster than I'd like.

Even More Layers

I added some circle shapes to both of these prints. The first one needs at least one more layer, but I might leave the second one as is.

Layers on Woodcuts

Here are some more photos as I add more layers to those unfinished woodcuts. These need probably one more layer before they're done.

Returning to Unfinished Woodcuts

I had several unfinished woodcuts that have unfortunately remained untouched since May, so lately I've been adding more layers to finish them. Here are some in-progress photos in the print room, and the next few posts of mine will show how they're progressing.

Drawing on Monotypes

The first drawing is progressing well, but I think the second one still has far enough to go.

Beginning to Draw on Monotypes

I made a few monotypes earlier that I wasn't quite happy with, so I've been drawing on top of them with charcoal. Here are the first stages on these two, and I'll keep you posted on their progress.

Early Tangle Woodcuts

Here are some of the favorite first prints I've done so far with the new woodblocks. I'm really torn on adding more layers to these two... (and I definitely will to the other prints I'm not showing you yet).

Tangle Woodcut Proofed

I pulled the first proof of the woodcut, now I just need to tweak the cutting and pull a good print.

Tangle Monotype

I tried making another monotype, this time with only one layer, and am much happier with the result.

Drawing Critique

Tuesday was the final critique for my drawing class, and setting up all of my drawings looked a bit like a miniature show...

I also took some better photos of my drawings for your viewing pleasure...

Drawing-Inspired Monotypes

After starting the woodcut inspired my my drawings, I thought I'd spend a day making a similar monotype. These were my first attempts monotypes in quite some time (aside from demos for class). I'm not completely happy with the results yet, but they were worth a try. I plan on drawing on top of the monotypes a bit.

Here's the first two-layered monotype...

... and a ghost print.

Drawing-Inspired Woodcut

After doing drawings with tangled masses I've decided to do a woodcut like it. I've got 3 blocks that I'll use as a triptych or individually. The two smaller pieces are 2' x 1' and the square center piece is 2' x 2'.

Blue Drawing

I finished the blue drawing too. I'm on a roll! This concludes my drawings for the summer, so I'll soon be back to prints.

Finishing Touches on Second Green Drawing

Giving the green ribbons in the other triptych some highlights got me putting a bit more green and light yellow highlights into these tangles... and it's done!

Finishing Touches on First Green Drawing

The green ribbons and tangled masses needed some highlights and voila! They're done.
