Happy Thanksgiving (Eve)!

I'm taking time out from printing & blog posting in order to take a nice break & spend time with family.

(Ok, that's not completely true as I have 9 small copper plates & an etching needle waiting in my bag.)

Tis the season of thanks, so thank you so much to all of you who follow my blog! I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Prepping Copper Plates

I just etched a scratched plate, prepped & put hard ground on 9 little 3x3 inch plates, aquatinted a 8x9 inch plate, & sandblasted a 9x12 inch plate for a mezzotint tonight.

I think I've got just a few intaglio prints coming up!

A Collage, Perhaps?

Today's teaser photo:

I am still in the brainstorming phase of using all of these stencil scraps for a collage. Stay tuned.

Career Day

It's Printmaking/Drawing Career Day at Kendall, so I'm busy listening to artist talks & critiques. I'll post something more interesting next time!

More Mezzotint

Yes, more mezzotint-ing! I pulled a proof yesterday...

... and then worked the print some more to the current state. I had issues proofing today, so this one's a bit light. I'd like to take it a bit farther, but I need to take a break & contemplate the changes a bit more before I make any.

Still Mezzotint-ing

Yup, still working on the mezzotint. I burnished more into the parts I want white. I did some dry point work into it for some subtle lines. I apologize for the bad photo - I forgot my camera. At least it's showing off the shininess.

I started a mezzotint this week. I "cheated" by sandblasting the plate to get an overall dark tone. I'm ok with it being a bit inconsistent. Here's a photo of how it printed so far with just the overall dark base (the large white chunks are actually damaged bits of paper).

And here's what the plate looks like now. You can see how most of it is rather textural (which holds ink & prints black) and how parts are getting shiny smooth where I've burnished (or rubbed) smooth and will print lighter. The sharpie lines will wash off, and are just there as I plan out the plate. More updates to come!

Screen Print

I made a screen print in conjunction with a print exchange in my grad/thesis printmaking class. The image came from a photoshopped image of my woodcuts. I got a bit print-happy and pulled two editions plus extras. Below is the one edition of fifteen prints laid out.

Dry Point Printed

Here's that dry point I did a few posts ago, but printed! I'll be using it to demonstrate intaglio printing for a demo tomorrow.

Woodcuts Return II

The four prints that I wrote about last time are now hanging up in the grad space at Kendall. I think they look great, if I may say so myself!

I finished the other two prints last night with their second layers. I'm debating whether or not to add a third layer to one of them. Detail photos of these prints to come next time!

The Woodcuts Return

My large square wood blocks are making a comeback! Yesterday I printed the first layer of four prints...

... and then today I printed the second layer on three of the prints and first layer on two more. I'll add more layers tomorrow & later this week. Ah, my studio is looking good again with a nice group of big woodcuts. Detail photos to come!
